about the course

This class is all about becoming a more functional, ethical and prosperous member of the healthcare team.

The hardest part of building solid professional relationships is translating your direct experience into words. But if you can learn how to communicate clearly what you observe, with both your referrers and your clients, you instantly set yourself apart from most massage therapists. You become the provider worth coming back to -- the one committed to deepening the care you provide.

This class will elevate and focus your everyday medical communication: The reasons people seek you out, the strategies you employ, the outcomes you’re seeing, and the clinical mysteries needing further investigation.

In 4 dynamic hours, we’ll cover:

  • How to speak about massage therapy in a medical context — ensuring that both clients and allied providers understand how best to collaborate with you.

  • How to succinctly record three types of information: Patient Subjective, Practitioner Subjective, and Objective. (This could also be called “how to make charting not suck”.)

  • How to use practical, HIPAA-compliant methods of sharing information with allied providers, so that your communications becomes reliable, confidential, and not burdensome to maintain.

  • How to speak as yourself, without overselling or obscuring your findings, which creates trust with both clients and referring providers.

  • How to focus on the information that matters most for good patient outcomes.

Classroom Methods:

  • Creative exercises grounded in sensory experience,

  • Template-based medical prompts,

  • Sharing many examples of writing from real clinical cases,

  • Mini-feedback sessions with fellow students.
